Regine Velasquez, widely known as Asia’s Songbird, has been named Billboard Philippines’ Woman of the Year for 2026. The announcement came on Tuesday, March 17, with the magazine highlighting her longstanding contribution to the local music industry.

In its feature, Billboard Philippines lauded Velasquez for setting a standard in Filipino music.

“From unforgettable anthems to incredible live performances, her artistry remains a foundation for the industry today and a benchmark for the future,” the publication said.

It also described her as “a force in the industry” whose career is “defined by vocal brilliance, cultural impact, and an unwavering dedication to OPM.”

Velasquez is scheduled to receive the award during the Billboard Philippines Women In Music 2026 event on March 24.

The event will also recognize several other notable female artists. G22 will be celebrated as a “Rising Star,” KZ Tandingan as a “Rule Breaker,” Yeng Constantino as a “Hitmaker,” BINI as a “Powerhouse,” and L0lita Carbon as an “Icon.”

Recently, Velasquez opened up about dealing with stage anxiety, reflecting on how performing used to be a source of excitement.

She assured fans that she is managing it, saying that the experience may be “part of aging.” Despite these personal challenges, her influence on Filipino music remains undeniable.

For decades, Velasquez has inspired countless artists and fans alike with her vocal mastery and dedication to OPM.

Her recognition as Woman of the Year serves not only as an acknowledgment of her achievements but also as a celebration of her ongoing role in shaping the future of the Philippine music scene.

Regine Velasquez is a renowned Filipino singer, actress, and TV host, famously known as Asia’s Songbird for her powerful voice and influence in the music industry. She first rose to prominence after winning the televised singing competition Ang Bagong Kampeon in 1984 and released her debut album three years later. Over the decades, Velasquez has become one of the Philippines’ best-selling and most awarded recording artists, delivering hits such as Narito Ako, Pangako, Love Me Again, and Araw Gabi. She has also staged major concerts both locally and internationally, earning recognition across Asia for her contributions to music. Beyond singing, she has served as a host and judge on programs including StarStruck, The Voice Philippines, and ASAP Natin ’To.

The clip contrasted the Philippines with other countries in terms of resources, prompting her to comment that the country is not inherently poor, but that corruption is a major factor causing citizens to suffer.

Meanwhile, in the same year, her husband, Ogie Alcasid, addressed false rumors that he was hospitalized for lung cancer. He clarified that the circulating photos and stories were misleading, with old images being reused in false claims about osteoarthritis treatments and miracle creams. Alcasid warned the public against being misled and stressed that he does not endorse any such products.
