Curtis first reposted a netizen’s defense of the journalists who interviewed Suntay. The post read,

“These journalists are trying their best to keep the mood bright*, trying to de-escalate their current situation into spiraling into a outburst of emotion while so obviously passively ridiculing Suntay on his remarks. This should be obvious. These journalists are on our side.”

“There is no room for laughter or keeping the mood bright in this instance. They could have asked the question, let him answer, and not react. Instead they laughed so it would make HIM comfortable?” she wrote.

She added that the focus should remain on those affected by the remarks.

“What about the women and people that already feel the discomfort from him and his statements?” Curtis said.

Veteran journalist Ed Lingao, one of the interviewers, later responded to criticisms online.

“Wala raw kaming ipinag-kaiba. Napanood kaya niya ang buong interview bago magtweet?” Lingao said.

Curtis reposted a screenshot of Lingao’s response with the caption:

“Interesting.”

She later clarified her position.

“I regret likening the hosts to Bong Suntay, that was too strong and said in frustration,” Curtis stated.

Despite acknowledging her earlier tone, Curtis maintained her core message.

“I still stand by the point that laughter has no place in a discussion about remarks that diminish women,” she said.
