Melai Cantiveros reunites with Yamyam Gucong for heartfelt and hilarious catch-up on “Kuan on One”

TV host Melai Cantiveros-Francisco returned with her signature Bisaya humor and heartfelt conversations in the February 3 episode of “Kuan on One,” this time sitting down with “Pinoy Big Brother Otso” Big Winner Yamyam Gucong.

The episode traced Yamyam’s journey from reality TV fame to becoming a hands-on entrepreneur and family breadwinner nearly six years later.

A major highlight of the episode was the quirky “Dakong Problema” challenge, aptly titled “From Big Winner to Breadwinner.”

Inspired by Yamyam’s life as a bakeshop owner, the game tasked Melai and Yamyam to mold dough into symbolic shapes within 30 seconds.

Their first prompt focused on parenthood, with Melai shaping a heart and Yamyam crafting a starfish-like figure.

“Hindi talaga mawawala ang pagmamahal ko sa mga anak ko, dahil sila ang greatest gift na binigay sa akin ng Diyos. Nagpapasalamat ako sa Diyos na sila ang mga anak ko,” Melai explained, sharing how faith shaped her experience of love.

Yamyam said his starfish symbolized his family, with each “foot” representing a loved one and himself as their foundation.

When asked about career dreams, Yamyam molded a shakoy to reflect life’s circular journey.

“Ang career ay katulad ng buhay, umiikot lang. Kung hindi ka susuko at magtitiwala ka sa sarili mo, sa gabay ng Diyos, makakarating ka sa dulo,” he said.

Melai, meanwhile, formed a sun.

“Hindi lang para sa sarili ko ang career ko, pero para rin sa lahat ng nanonood sa akin. Gusto ko na maging parang araw nila, maging inspirasyon nila.”

Later rounds explored family support and self-identity. Yamyam described himself as a tree.

“Ako ang nagbibigay ng positivity sa kanila at para akong pundasyon. Sa akin sila kumukuha ng lakas.”

Melai molded a smiling mouth, explaining her belief in starting each day with gratitude and joy.

The episode ended with Melai commending Yamyam’s perseverance and wise financial choices, highlighting how he continues to grow long after his PBB victory.

Melai Cantiveros is a well-loved figure in Philippine showbiz who rose to fame after winning Pinoy Big Brother: Double Up in 2009. She later proved her versatility by clinching the first season of Your Face Sounds Familiar in 2015. Melai is married to fellow actor Jason Francisco, and together they have two daughters, Mela and Stela.

Earlier, Melai shared how what was supposed to be a family vacation unexpectedly turned into a hospital visit after both of her daughters got sick. Her youngest, Stela, was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection after developing a fever, while her eldest, Mela, soon followed with a sore throat. Despite the scare, Melai kept her post light and positive, thanking their doctor, the hospital staff, and God as her children recovered.

Meanwhile, Melai also made headlines after opening up during her guest appearance on DJ Chacha’s From the Heart podcast. The actress-comedienne candidly spoke about the struggles in her marriage with Jason Francisco, revealing that there was a time she fell out of love and their relationship nearly ended in separation. According to Melai, pride, misunderstandings, and clashing moods and attitudes pushed them to the brink, adding that Jason may have felt the same way during that challenging period.
