Police Lieutenant Colonel Arwyn Gaffud, chief of the Rodriguez Police, said the suspects allegedly used their issued firearms during the shooting.
“Bago ho niya sitahin, pinaputukan na po siya ng issued firearms ng suspek,” says Gaffud.
Authorities said the victim died on the spot, with more than 20 empty bullet casings recovered from the crime scene.
Police believe the suspects harbored resentment toward the officer due to previous disciplinary actions.
“Kinimkim po siguro 'yung pagdidisiplina sa kaniya, sama ng loob,” says Gaffud.
The incident was witnessed by fellow CAA members, who immediately reported it to authorities.
Responding police found the suspects asleep and allegedly intoxicated in their hut.
The 27-year-old alleged gunman and his two companions were arrested, and firearms including an M16 rifle were confiscated.
The suspects claimed the shooting was unintentional.
“‘Di sana ‘yun sinasadya ma’am,” says the suspect known as “Pri.” Another suspect said they thought the camp was under attack.
“Akala namin hinarass 'yung kampo kaya kami nagpaputok,” says alias “Jo.”
The suspects are currently detained at the Rodriguez Police Custodial Facility while facing charges of murder and illegal discharge of firearms.

In another incident, a 46-year-old traffic enforcer lost his life in a road accident on January 18, 2026, in Barangay Barra, Opol. Authorities said the victim was riding his motorcycle toward Cagayan de Oro when he attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming sedan driven by a 33-year-old man. The impact caused the driver to lose control of the car, which then crashed into a parking area and damaged five parked motorcycles. Police confirmed that by Monday, January 19, the sedan driver had been released after reaching an amicable settlement with the victim’s family and the owners of the damaged motorcycles.
