“Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Celebrity Collab Edition 2.0” housemate Joaquin Arce revealed a deeply personal part of his life during Day 32 of the reality show, opening up to Big Brother about being born deaf in his right ear.

For Arce, the condition is something he has learned to embrace with optimism rather than see as a limitation.
He shared that he has never experienced hearing with both ears, but he chose to adopt a positive mindset throughout his life.
“Pinanganak po akong bingi sa kanang tainga. Never ko po naranasan na may dalawa akong tainga na nakakarinig. But my entire life, I’ve been looking at it in such a positive light na hindi ko po napansin ang mga negatibong effects,” he said.

Growing up, Arce explained that his parents never made him feel disadvantaged. Instead, they encouraged him to see his condition as something that made him different in a good way.
“Noong lumalaki po ako, hindi ko po naramdam na may special needs po ako. Kasi 'yung mga magulang po, they treated me like I wasn’t deaf… They enforced positivity na dahil dito unique ako,” he said.
He even viewed it as his “super power,” saying, “Superpowers are what make superheroes unique, that what makes them superheroes and not normal people.”
Because of his disability, Arce said he eventually developed a strong habit of listening intently to others.
“I guess I became a good listener because of that,” he shared, noting how he makes a conscious effort to catch everything people say.
Arce spoke about his condition while expressing his gratitude for being included in fellow housemate Marco’s dramatic presentation about his brother, who has Down syndrome.
“Talagang masaya po ako na pinili niya ako para maging part sa kuwento niya. I really feel for him,” he said, describing how deeply the story resonated with him.
