Herlene Budol opens up about English struggles, credits suitor Kevin Dasom for helping her learn

Herlene Budol openly shared that mastering the English language is still a challenge for her, and she’s grateful to have someone patient enough to guide her through it.

In her conversation with Kara David on the podcast "i-Listen," Herlene laughed at herself as she described her ongoing struggle.

“Ayun nga ‘yung problema ko. Tapos naman ako ng pag-aaral pero 'di ko talaga makuha-kuha 'yung pag-i-English na ‘yun,” she said, noting how young kids today speak English naturally.

She even joked about watching cartoons with barely any dialogue, saying it didn’t help her learn at all.

Kara reassured her, telling her, “Hindi naman sukatan ng katalinuhan ang pag-i-English,” a reminder that intelligence is not tied to language fluency.

But Herlene admitted she still wants to sound better when speaking English, adding that it’s sometimes necessary for work and communication.

She also shared that she feels more comfortable talking to foreigners because “kapag ibang lahi, hindi ka jina-judge,” unlike some Filipinos who tend to be perfectionists about grammar.

When Kevin Dasom’s name came up, Herlene couldn’t help but smile. She revealed that the actor-suitor has been helping her practice.

“Huwag kang mahiya. Kung gusto mo mag-English, mag-English ka lang,” he often tells her, which has boosted her confidence.

Determined to improve, Herlene said she’s going back to the basics.

“Verb, noun, adjective… Babalik nga ulit ako doon,” she joked, sharing that she even keeps a notebook to study.

She prefers not to pretend to be fluent because mistakes only attract ridicule.

As the conversation lightened, Herlene quipped about her dream role abroad: a mute character, so she can focus on acting without worrying about English lines.

Herlene Budol, also known as 'Hipon Girl', is an actress, comedian, and social media star who broke through in showbiz as a contestant on “Wowowin” and later became a host. Herlene was first runner-up and won several minor awards at the 2022 Binibining Pilipinas pageant. She was also crowned as Miss Philippines Tourism 2023 in the recent Miss Grand Philippines pageant. Herlene played the lead role in Kapuso shows "Magandang Dilag" and "Binibining Marikit."

In a previous report by KAMI, Herlene Budol admitted she sought professional help to move on from the 2023 controversial issues involving her and “Magandang Dilag” co-stars, Rob Gomez and Bianca Manalo. During the press conference of “Binibining Marikit,” she revealed that she went through a series of psychological therapy to help her move on. It can be recalled the controversy stemmed from the alleged exchange of messages between her and Rob, as well as messages between the latter and Bianca. The actress said she has put everything behind her and is now focused on making herself better as a person and as an actress.

In another report, Herlene Budol recently delighted her Instagram followers by sharing a cute and entertaining house tour video. In the video, Herlene revealed that she was visiting the beautiful home of her good friend, Pokwang. Pokwang, who was so welcoming, gave Herlene a tour of her lovely home, showing off some of the stunning features of her house.
