Angelica Panganiban reveals reasons behind delay in making showbiz comeback

  • Angelica says her hiatus allowed her to fully embrace motherhood after decades of nonstop work
  • She revealed she battled avascular necrosis, which led to multiple surgeries and months of limited mobility
  • Despite the health struggles, she never considered leaving showbiz for good
  • The actress waited for a project that felt “worth it,” making *UnMarry* her long-awaited comeback

Angelica Panganiban is marking her much-awaited return to the big screen through the Metro Manila Film Festival entry "UnMarry," and the actress says the timing could not have been more meaningful.

After four years away from showbiz, Angelica shared that the long pause was exactly what she needed to focus on the new chapter of her life—building a family with her non-showbiz husband Gregg Homan and caring for their daughter Amila, born in 2022.

“Siguro nag-sunod sunod lang yung nangyari sa akin since I got pregnant and then gusto ko talagang mag-focus doon sa pagiging nanay… since six years old ako, nag-aartista na ako,” she said during the film’s pictorial shoot last November 15.

For the first time in decades, she welcomed the chance to “pause” and nurture her role as a mother.

But just as she was preparing to return to work when Amila turned two, life took an unexpected turn.

Angelica revealed she was diagnosed with avascular necrosis, a condition that affected her bones and caused her health to deteriorate.

“Slowly nag-deteriorate yung katawan ko… I was on a walker and then napunta na nga sa wheelchair,” she recalled.

She eventually underwent several surgeries, including hip decompression and hip replacement on both sides, followed by a lengthy recovery—significantly delaying her comeback.

Despite the physically and emotionally draining journey, quitting acting never crossed her mind. Watching fellow artists work ignited her longing to return. Still, she waited for the right project—something that would feel truly worth her time away from her family. "UnMarry" became that project, giving her the confidence to say yes “isang daan porsyento,” without hesitation or regret.
