A Filipino seafarer has died following an attack by Houthi rebels on the Dutch-flagged cargo vessel MV Minervagracht in the Gulf of Aden, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed on Tuesday.

“We convey the sad news of the passing of the Filseafarer critically injured during the Sept 29 attack on the MV Minervagracht in the Gulf of Aden,” said DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Our deepest sympathies to his family,” he added.
Cacdac said Philippine officials, along with the victim’s sister and wife, are traveling to Djibout to meet with the shipowner and arrange for the repatriation of the sailor’s remains.
According to the DMW, another Filipino crew member is recovering from injuries sustained during the incident, while 10 other Filipino seafarershave already been repatriated to Manila over the weekend.

The MV Minervagracht was struck by a projectile on **September 29**, sparking a fire onboard. The **Houthi rebels**, who control large parts of Yemen including its capital, **Sanaa**, have claimed responsibility for similar attacks on commercial ships, saying they are acts of solidarity with **Palestinians** amid the **Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza**.
The DMW said it continues to coordinate with the Department of Foreign Affairs and the shipowner to ensure proper assistance for the victims and their families, emphasizing its commitment to the safety and welfare of all Filipino seafarers deployed overseas.
