While she confessed to being tempted by the power and wealth often associated with public office, she ultimately stated that her conscience and integrity prevent her from pursuing a political career.
During a Thursday appearance on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Carla, who has been dubbed the "Queen of Call Out" by netizens for her fearless public statements against bureaucratic red tape and alleged anomalies, was asked directly about her political ambitions.
"Honestly, may times, tempted po ako," Carla admitted. She clarified, however, that the temptation stemmed from "the wrong reasons."
She candidly explained that witnessing the widespread scandals and corruption in the country, particularly the lavish lifestyles of implicated officials, made it easy to entertain the thought: "Kasi for the wrong reasons… kasi sa totoo lang sa lahat ng kalokohang nangyayari po sa bansa natin, sa politics pa lang, ang daling sabihin, ‘Gusto ko na rin mag-politics because I want to make as much as they're making. Gusto ko rin ng lavish lifestyle. Gusto ko rin mag-travel. Gusto ko rin ng mga billion-billion.’ For the wrong reasons."
"As a human being, it's so tempting po," the Kapuso star continued.
Despite the momentary allure of wealth and power, Abellana maintained that she could not reconcile her personal values with the realities of the political arena.
"But then, I have integrity. May konsensiya po ako. I cannot, I do not see myself in politics. And obviously, ayoko naman po kung sakaling papasok ng politics, for the wrong reasons po," she affirmed.
She stressed that if she were to ever enter public service, it would certainly not be for the corrupt reasons that currently tempt her.
Carla’s comments come amid a high-profile corruption probe into anomalous flood control projects, an issue about which she has been particularly vocal.
She voiced intense frustration, emphasizing her status as an obedient and heavily-taxed citizen. "I'm outraged sa totoo lang po.
Galit na galit po ako. Ngayon ko nga lang po, actually, na-e-experience ang ganitong klase ng galit," she revealed.
"Kasi ako ay obedient taxpayer. I pay, my goodness, so much in taxes. Masakit po ‘yun for us. Whether maliit lang po o malaki ang taxes na binabayaran nyo, the fact na nagbabayad po kayo ng taxes, dapat magalit po kayo. All the more for us kasi grabe po, 'yung eagle eyes po sila sa atin in terms of taxes. Wala po tayong lusot," she explained.
Her primary demand regarding the corruption scandal is concrete accountability and punishment. She insisted that it’s not enough for implicated officials to merely face a hearing or investigation.
"Dapat po may makulong talaga. Dapat po may managot. Hindi lang po sila haharap sa isang hearing or pag-uusap or investigation. There has to be accountability and there has to be punishment po talaga," she asserted.
Her statements reinforce her image as a celebrity using her platform to demand better governance and a cleaner system, even as she rejects the idea of joining the system herself.
