In an exclusive interview on the YouTube channel of veteran broadcaster Luchi Cruz-Valdes, Alajar opened up about her past struggles, explaining that she initially turned to drugs as a way to cope with the demanding, round-the-clock schedule of her work as an actress.

Alajar shared that she was in her mid-twenties and already had a family when this phase began. She said that she was influenced by people in her life at the time and, feeling unable to stop them, she decided to join them instead.

Her journey into drug use started with marijuana, but she eventually progressed to something stronger: shabu (methamphetamine).

The actress admitted that she "loved" the drug at the time because of a specific effect it had on her: it allowed her to stay awake for extended periods.

This was a crucial "come on" for her, given the grueling and unpredictable hours required for filming. She recalled how she could stay awake for up to 72 hours, a period that would lead to hallucinations.

This lifestyle, however, came to an abrupt end. Alajar revealed that a significant event in her life and marriage prompted her to make a firm decision.

"May nangyari sa buhay ko, sa buhay ng mag asawa and I just decided ‘oops, tama na ito na yun. Hinto na tayo. With my bags and the kids’ things, umalis ako sa bahay’," she recounted.

Taking control of her life, she left the house with her bags and her children's belongings, severing ties with the person who had introduced her to the drug-using lifestyle.

Since that pivotal moment, Gina Alajar has been living a drug-free life. Today, she is a respected actress and director, and has also embraced new ventures such as social media live selling, finding great success and reconnecting with her fans.
