On Instagram, Derek gave his followers a glimpse of the intímate gathering held in honor of his dad. The celebration appeared to be a warm and close-knit affair attended by family and friends. However, what stood out was Derek's emotional and heartfelt birthday message for his father.

"Dad, so many people love and admire you and I'm proud to be one of them. You are my idol, my role model, and the example I look up to in life. Your marriage is my goal built on love, loyalty, and strength," the actor began in his now-viral post on the photo-sharing app on Monday, August 4.

Derek went on to describe his father as a "living legend" in his heartfelt message on social media.

"You are a living legend. You are a great man, a devoted husband, and a loving father. I'm endlessly grateful for the love you've given our family, and for everything you continue to teach us just by being who you are," he added, touching many netizens in the comment section of his viral post.

To close his message, Derek extended his warmest wishes: "I wish you nothing but the best of health, happiness, and many more birthdays filled with love and laughter. We love you so much!"

The actor also took the time to thank everyone who made the event possible and memorable for his dad and the guests, "Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate your birthday. It meant so much to all of us. And a big thank you to the entire team at Bondi & Bourke for the beautiful venue and absolutely delicious food, especially to Wade Watson, who made everything extra special."
