Kapuso actress Ashley Ortega recently opened up about a drinking phase she went through in her younger years.

In a vlog with businesswoman Anna Magkawas earlier this week, Ashley reflected on that period with a sense of pride, saying it allowed her to discover more about herself.

“There was a time that I was an alcoholic,” she confessed.

She recounted sneaking out to buy bottles of alcohol from a convenience store, hiding them in her cabinet in an attempt to keep them away from her mother’s watchful eyes.

However, her efforts proved futile. “May mga bottles ako na nakatago sa cabinet ko pero nahuli din ako. Actually, nahuli ako ng mommy ko–– doon talaga nagalit siya sa akin. ‘Sisirain mo yun buhay mo?’” Ashley shared.

When asked what triggered her drinking phase, Ashley revealed it was a coping mechanism.

Despite being in the industry for years, she often landed support roles while her peers were given leads.

“I was aware of what I was doing pero pang cope ko lang yun–– just to forget my reality. Kumbaga, I just wanted to have my own world,” she explained.

Though she didn’t harbor jealousy, Ashley admitted she hoped to have her own leading role.

“Sinasabi ko lang sa sarili ko na sana mag ka leading show na rin ako balang araw,” she said, adding that comparisons from others affected her confidence.

Her excessive drinking lasted only two months. Ashley credits her faith for helping her overcome that phase.

“Doon rin ako naging close kay God actually,” she said, proud of the journey she went through. “I’m so proud of Ashley seven years ago.”

Ashley Ortega was born on December 26, 1998. She is a Filipino actress and a former figure skater, well known for her roles in Dormitoryo and My Destiny on GMA Network. She also was a co-host of the variety show Wowowin. Ashley also made a big impact as one of the celebrity housemates on Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition, with fans praising her personality and attitude.

Previously, Ashley Ortega revealed the real score between her and Mavy Legaspi. She put an end to the rumors about them during “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” on Monday.

It can be recalled that the two were previously spotted getting cozy together in Cebu as they attend the Sinulog Festival last January. Ashley, who met Mavy years also, revealed they started hanging out together only last year following his breakup with Kyline Alcantara. "Mga bata pa kami noon eh. I think when he started signing a contract sa Sparkle but we started hanging out more last year. Tapos doon ko talaga siya nakilala."
