Maris Racal praises strength of Filipino women through ‘Incognito’ role

Actress Maris Racal expressed admiration for the strength and resilience of Filipino women, which she came to appreciate more deeply through her character Gab Rivera in the action series Incognito.

In a media conference held on June 25 in Quezon City for the show's finale, Maris was asked by Philstar.com about the impact her role had on her views toward Filipino women.

She admitted that at first, she felt complacent playing Gab, but later found herself gaining a newfound respect for women who face adversity head-on.

“Nagkakaroon ako ng deep appreciation for women who thrive in tough situations, so strong in their masculine energy, and work in male-dominated society. Sobrang nagkaroon ng matinding respeto sa kanila," Maris said.

Maris noted that doing an action series like *Incognito* was a big shift for her, describing the production dynamic as unique.

“May malaking adjustment for me... a new kind of camaraderie and chemistry sa production. Sobrang iba siya sa drama series or rom-com movies,” she shared.

She added that the experience gave her insight into the personalities of women in uniformed services.

“May ibang kind of ugali sila and napamahal ako sa kind of beauty na 'yun.”

“It doesn't fit in the usual mode but it's as beautiful, as human, as powerful. May matinding respeto ako sa mga babae,” she concluded.

The show’s final episodes are set in Marawi, where the cast filmed for 10 days—eight years after the Marawi Siege.

Maris Racal is a Filipina actress, singer-songwriter, host, vlogger, and endorser. She became prominent in 2014 after competing in "Pinoy Big Brother: All In," where she placed second. She was previously in a relationship with Rico Blanco, a singer-songwriter and OPM legend. Her career also shot forward after her loveteam with Anthony Jennings in "Can't Buy Me Love" was well-liked by fans, and her following also increased.
