The heartfelt track, a collaboration between Mercado and Star Music's Jonathan Manalo, is featured on Jennylyn’s upcoming extended play (EP).
The actress shared insights into the song's creation during an interview, revealing that the composition for Dennis was an impromptu session.
"It's one of the songs included in my new EP. Jonathan and I made it for Dennis," she explained. "It was on the spot. 'Let's make a song, okay, tell me your story.' Then as I was recounting my experiences, he was already writing, and we were building the song."
For the Kapuso actress, the song holds profound personal significance. She emphasized her desire for the track to be part of her album, especially given her new recording company and the collaboration with Jonathan Manalo.
To surprise her husband, Jennylyn invited him to the recording session without revealing the song's true subject. "When I recorded that song, I brought him along," she recounted. "But he didn't know that's what I was recording. I surprised him, and once Jonathan and I finished, we played the raw track for him. I told him, 'This is for you, here are the lyrics.'"
Dennis’ reaction was deeply moving. He confessed to holding back tears upon his initial listen, mindful of the cameras present.
"Of course, it was surprising, especially because the lyrics felt so personal," Dennis admitted with a smile. "It's like when you hear it, this song was truly designed for me because my wife created it. I was trying to hold back from crying because there were cameras. I thought, 'Okay, I won't show it.' But inside, the emotion was intense because, of course, it's such a wonderful feeling to have a song written for you, where you are the inspiration."
The couple is currently starring together in GMA Primetime's "Sanggang-Dikit FR," marking Jennylyn’s debut in an action series.
This is also the first time both parents are simultaneously engaged in a television project, a shift from their usual alternating work schedules to ensure one parent is always home with their child, Dylan.
Jennylyn noted Dylan's understanding of their work, saying, "'Oh, Mama is just going to work.' It's okay with him."
Dennis added that their comfort and familiarity with each other on set greatly enhance their work, allowing for open communication to improve scenes.
The actor also confessed to feeling apprehensive about Jennylyn's action sequences in "Sanggang-Dikit FR," especially early on.
He revealed that some scenes required multiple takes as Jennylyn, new to the action genre, initially found it challenging. "Of course, especially in the beginning, because it's her first time performing in action scenes like this. Before, even her running wasn't proper," the actor shared candidly.
Jennylyn Mercado is an actress, singer, songwriter, host, and commercial model from the Philippines. She entered show business when she participated in GMA Network's reality talent competition, StarStruck, and subsequently won. She is now married to her fellow Kapuso star, Dennis Trillo, a Pinoy actor, recording artist, and model. He is known for playing the role of Eric del Mundo in "My Husband’s Lover." He also played the role of Crisostomo Ibarra and Simoun in the multi-awarded series "Maria Clara at Ibarra."
Last April, Dennis and Jennylyn's daughter, Dylan Jayde, celebrated her 3rd birthday. On her little one’s special day, Jennylyn treated her followers to a set of photos from Dylan’s adorable birthday shoot. As seen in the photos beautifully captured by Nice Print Photography, the birthday girl had a Moana-inspired shoot. Jen and her husband also joined the shoot, where they dressed up as Moana and Maui, respectively.
Meanwhile last March, showbiz reporter Ogie Diaz shared a funny video on Facebook, which showed Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado, taking on the viral "Hayop ka" challenge. In the video, Mama Ogs introduced Dennis as a multi-awarded actor, along with his wife, Jennylyn. He then started by tapping Dennis on the arm, signaling that he should start delivering the line, "Hayop ka, may araw ka rin, mabubulok ka sa impyerno." Thereafter, on the third try, and where Dennis feigned an expression of getting hurt, Jen intervened and jokingly got mad at Ogie, which left the latter telling Jen that he was "Ogie."
