In a tweet posted after casting his vote, Khalil revealed that his party-list vote was invalidated due to an issue caused by pressing too h@rd on his ballot.

“Be extra careful when shading your ballots,” Ramos wrote.

“I pressed a bit too h@rd on the first page, and it left marks on the back, right where the partylist section was. Sadly, my partylist vote was invalidated due to ‘overvoting.’ Don’t make the same mistake.”

Khalil’s tweet quickly gained attention, with many netizens thanking him for raising awareness about a detail that could affect vote validity.

His experience highlights a critical aspect of the manual voting process: ensuring that ballot marks are clear but not excessive enough to bleed through and interfere with other sections.

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has long advised voters to fill in the ovals on their ballots properly — fully shaded but not overly pressed — to avoid smudging or unintended markings that could result in nullified votes.

With the midterm elections underway, Ramos’ message serves as a timely reminder for voters to stay mindful of the technical aspects of casting their votes.

As many Filipinos take part in shaping the country’s future through the ballot, a little extra care can ensure that every vote is counted and no voice is left unheard.
