Reigning Miss Charm Philippines Cyrille Payumo has taken to social media to address the criticisms she received for wearing Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray’s farewell gown called “Reflection.”

It is worth noting that Payumo wore the stunning gown designed by Mak Tumang during her final walk at the Miss Universe Philippines-Pampanga coronation night last January 25.
In her statement, Payumo said that before she passed her MUPH-Pampanga crown, she was told that Tumang would sponsor her final walk gown. One of the options was the “Reflection,” which she excitedly chose to wear.

“On January 25, 2025, the second edition of Miss Universe Philippines-Pampanga took place, a momentous occasion that I will cherish forever. Days before the event, I was humbled to learn that the brilliant designer, Mak Tumang, would be sponsoring my final walk gown as I passed the crown to the next representative of our beloved province, Pampanga.”
“To add to the magic of the moment, I was informed that one of options from his masterpieces would be the farewell gown of Miss Universe 2018, Catriona Gray. A wave of emotions flooded over me—excitement, nerves, and a profound sense of honor.”
“My heart swelled with awe and I felt an overwhelming sense of privilege,” she continued.
Payumo went on to apologize to those who may have been hurt or offended by her wearing of the gown.
“I understand that wearing such an iconic gown has sparked divided opinions. To those who may have been hurt or offended, I want to clarify that causing pain was never my intention. My goal was to honor not only the victory of bringing the Miss Philippines Charm title home to Pampanga but also to celebrate the visionary artistry of Mak Tumang. I want to express my deep gratitude to Sir Mak for allowing me to wear one of his stunning masterpieces.”
“I recognize that my actions may have unintentionally diminished the significance of Catriona Gray’s monumental achievements, and for that, I am deeply sorry. I take full responsibility for any misunderstandings or hurt feelings that may have resulted,” the beauty queen from Pampanga stressed.
“This experience has been a moment of deep reflection, and I sincerely regret any distress caused. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow from it, and I appreciate your understanding during this time,” she added.
