Richard Gomez, in a text message he sent to News Watch Plus Philippines, gave an explanation regarding his “traffic complaint” post.
In his text text message, the actor-turned-politician explained that his post was his own “opinion” and “complaint” at that very moment.
The Leyte 4th district representative also pointed out that his sentiment was directed at the bad traffic.
“My sentiment was the very bad traffic. My destination from our house as what Google Maps said was only 5.2 kilometers away. But it took me almost 3 hours to get there,” News Watch Plus, quoting the text message of Cong. Goma, reported.

The actor-turned-politician also reportedly made some comparisons as regards the traffic management at the Skyway.
“Take a look at the skyway—why is it at certain times of the day or depending on the volume of traffic they use the other side of the road for Counterflow Traffic? This is to alleviate the load of traffic congestion,” says News Watch Plus, again quoting some parts of the text message that Richard sent them.
It can be recalled that Richard’s post about the bad traffic earned flak from some netizens who suggested the Leyte representative should ride the bus.
“Wow Richard Gomez. Just wow. Eh kung sumakay ka nalang kaya ng bus? Nakakahiya naman sayo na may sariling sasakyan at mas kumportable kesa sa amin na nagsisiksikan makauwi lang ha,” a netizen with the handle @ALToWantTFC posted on the social media platform ‘X’.
“Traffic po kasi andami ninyo na private vehicles. If maganda at mas efficient ang mass transportation system sana kokonti na lang ang mga sasakyan,” former senatorial candidate David D’ Angelo pointed out in a post.
Earlier, the congressman lamented that “people are quick to criticize,” adding that MMDA and other agencies should work on the problem.
“That’s the easiest thing to do nowadays. Let the MMDA, DPWH, or the National Center for Transportation Studies in UP work on the problem of transportation traffic,” Richard earlier said.
Richard Gomez is one of the most popular Filipino actors of his generation. He is also a director, television presenter, athlete, and politician. Since 2016, he has been serving Ormoc City as its mayor.
The actor-turned-politician recently stirred social media buzz with his post on Threads. Earlier, Richard took to Instagram's Threads to write a status he dedicated to "writers." In his post, Richard asked netizens to check if his post had already been deleted. He then said to inform the writers to double check from time to time.
It can be recalled that the Leyte 4th District Representative took to social media to rant about the traffic situation along EDSA. On his Facebook page, Gomez said he was stuck in traffic for more than two hours. The actor-turned-politician then suggested opening the EDSA busway to cars to ease congestion. As of this writing, the said post is now deleted from his account.
