A 39-year-old motorcycle rider died after his motorcycle crashed when it hit a dog in Batangas City.

GMA Regional TV Balitang Southern Tagalog reported that the rider was on his way to work at a convenience store when the dog crossed the road in Barangay Libjo.

According to PLT. Sharen Ama, Chief of the Public Information Office of the Batangas Component City Police Station, the victim lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown off onto the street after hitting the dog.

"Siya po ay tumilapon kasama ang motor niya. Siya po ay naka-helmet, maayos ang pananamit, siya po ay papasok ng trabaho, so wala po siyang sign na under influence of liquor," said Ama.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to severe injuries.

Furthermore, the dog was not found at the scene of the tragic accident.

In response to the accident, Barangay Libjo officials plan to intensify efforts to capture stray dogs in the area, in conjunction with the existing Republic Act No. 9482, or Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, prohibiting street dogs.
