Pura Luka Vega faces cybercrime raps filed by socmed group

- Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, is facing another challenge

- The Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas Inc. (KSMBPI) filed a criminal complaint against Pagente for allegedly "offending religious feelings" and violating the cybercrime law

- The social media group filed the criminal complaint before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office on Monday

- KSMBPI's complaints accused the drag artist of proliferating vulgar content in the form of music videos uploaded on social media between July of 2021 and July of this year

Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente and who goes by the pronouns they/them, is facing new criminal charges filed by the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas Inc. (KSMBPI).

In a report by Philstar.com, KSMBPI filed charges against the drag artist on Monday for allegedly violating Article 113 of the Revised Penal Code or offending religious feelings in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

According to Inquirer.net, the social media group accused Pagente of proliferating vulgar content in the form of music videos uploaded on social media on the following dates: July 9, 2021; August 15, 2021; December 10, 2021; April 10, 2023; June 27, 2023; and, July 11, 2023.

As per Philippine News Agency, KSMBPI stated in its 17-page complaint affidavit that in the videos, Pagente is "patently seen to be mimicking and mocking 'Jesus,' 'Jesus Christ' or 'Jesus of Nazareth,' the central figure of Christianity."

"It is dominantly apparent that respondent willfully and knowingly exhibited immoral or indecent scenes or actions that are seriously and notoriously offensive to religious feelings and/or religion." the complaint also said.

Drag artists, like drag queen Pura Luka Vega, would usually wear clothing and makeup to imitate present or historical personalities to the point of exaggeration for entertainment. Drag queens would also often perform pre-planned acts with audience interaction.

In a previous report, Pura Luka Vega was arrested a few weeks ago. A warrant of arrest was served to the drag artist for "offenses of immoral doctrines, obscene publications and exhibition, and indecent shows," according to a release by the Manila police. The 'Drag Den' star was under the custody of Manila Police Station 3. To recall, the 'Drag Den' star stirred controversy over their viral 'Ama Namin' performance.

Pura Luka Vega was already released on bail and has gone back to performing. On the day following his release, a fundraising event was held, which was spearheaded by the winner of "Drag Den PH" winner, NAIA. In the said event, Pura openly performed "The Prayer" together with their mother.
