Pura Luka Vega, inaming wala pa ring permanenteng abugado sa ngayon: “Wala pa rin akong counsel”

Pura Luka Vega, in a recent post on Instagram Stories, admitted she still doesn’t have a permanent legal counsel up to this day.

However, she revealed there are some lawyers who temporarily help her out of the “kindness of their hearts.”

She did not give any name, nor indication, as to who these lawyers were or from what firm they belonged.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga lawyers na tumutulong saken pansamantala, they have helped me with the kindness of their hearts,” Pura Luka said in her post on IG Stories.

The “drag queen” also said that while she doesn’t have a regular legal firm or counsel by her side all the time, she’s still grateful to whatever support she receives.

“Wala pa rin naman akong legal firm / counsel, but grateful na ako sa kung anong suporta ang natatanggap ko,” Pura Luka added.

It can be recalled that she recently went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Quezon City to face the complaints filed against her by some religious organizations.

Her legal troubles stemmed from her controversial performance a few months ago where she appeared looking like “Jesus Christ” while a remixed rock version of the religious hymn, “Ama Namin,” playing in the background.

Pura Luka Vega is a Pinoy drag artist who saw herself skyrocket to national fame after her performance to the remixed version of the religious hymn, “Ama Namin,” spread widely on social media. Pura Luka, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, said she allegedly got her drag name from a combination of names that include that of beauty queen Pura Villanueva Kalaw and singer Suzanne Vega who sang the song “Luka,” which in Tagalog word also means crazy, thus, “Pura Luka Vega.” Although she was already known in some circles, Pura Luka rose to greater heights in mid-2023 when a video of her performance of a rock remix of “Ama Namin” while wearing a Jesus Christ-inspired outfit in a bar spread online. Many called out the drag queen for her alleged “blasphemous” performance, though the drag queen insisted that it’s her way of doing “praise and worship.”

In another recent post on Instagram, Pura Luka revealed she went to the Department of Justice in Quezon City to face the charges filed against her. In her post, she took a selfie while standing in front of the DOJ building on Friday, September 8 of this year. She again reiterated that “drag is not a crime,” adding that the controversy she’s facing has “highlighted hypocrisy and is an education on hate.” It can be recalled that religious groups like the Hijos del Nazareno-Central and the Philippines for Jesus Movement filed cases against Pura Luka for allegedly violating several provisions of specific laws.

Last month, she took to the stage and performed for his select audience. This time around, the tour was named as "Persona Non Grata Tour." A number of his audience took to Twitter and posted videos and photos of his performances. The location of the performance was undisclosed.
