Former child star, JM Canlas, has passed away at the age of 17 years old on Thursday, August 3.

Jerom Canlas, older brother of JM and actor Elijah Canlas, announced the heartbreaking news in a social media post.

“It is with the heaviest heart and deep sorrow that our family announces the death of our bunso, Jamile Matthew Madiclum Canlas, earlier this morning. He was 17.”

“JM, as he was known to many, was a talented actor, athlete, musician, singer, debater, and gamer. He was always a proud Filipino with a bias and compassion for the poor and oppressed. But most of all, JM will forever be remembered as an incredible young man, son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, student, and friend.”

Jerom also made public about his late brother’s wake.

“Family and friends who are dear to JM, the wake will begin tomorrow, August 4, 8 pm until Sunday, August 6, at St. Peter Chapel Quezon Avenue, Room 116. Let us celebrate his short but wonderful life, as he would want us to.”

There was no specific cause of death given, but Jerom revealed that JM had suffered from mental health issues.

“In his adolescence, JM struggled with his mental health. If you are experiencing current distress and are in need of URGENT ATTENTION, please proceed to the emergency room of the hospital nearest you.”

Jerom further shared some details about free counseling services to assist people with mental health concerns.

JM was best known for appearing in films, including the 2017 independent film “Kiko Boksingero.” He was also part of the Tagalog dub of “Stranger Things.” JM's first television appearance was in the series Team Yey back in 2016.

Aside from JM, there were other young celebrities who died recently.

American actor Angus Cloud has passed away at the age of 25. Cloud died on Monday at his family home in Oakland, California, his family said in a statement. There was no specific cause of death given, but his family said in a statement that he had suffered from mental health issues and was hit hard by his father’s death. The “Euphoria” star died just days after the death of his father, who was also his “best friend.”
