“I did not like it. It was so presumptuous of me to feel na all these kolehiyalas love me. It's so presumptuous of anybody to feel that way,” Ariel said in answer to Tito Boy’s query about his label.
He also said that it’s just not him, adding that he didn’t know 70s singer Hajji Alejandro was the original “Kilabot.”
Ariel spent most of his young adult life in Canada and would just visit the Philippines regularly during that time.
“Wala namang akong alam sa history of OPM at that time. But how could you take somebody's title?” the singer said.
He also revealed that it was Tito Boy’s partner, Bong Quintana, who was among those who concocted the label for Ariel.
“There were a few times, Si Bong kasi would always be backstage. Sasabihin nila nina Hansel, ‘I'll introduce Ariel as kilabot’. I told Bong, ‘you introduce me as that, hindi ako lalabas ng stage’.” Ariel recalled.
However, the label soon stuck and young girls would often go wild when Ariel would appear on stage to sing.
When asked if he had a wild experience with a fan, Ariel said it was during a show in Assumption where he took a girl on stage.
We take girls up the stage and we give them a kiss. When it was my time for me to kiss her, she grabbed my face and —lips to lips kami. Tapos the next day, ka-date ko na siya,” the singer recalled while laughing.
