Roderick Paulate, ‘guilty’ sa graft, falsification of public documents; maaaring makulong hanggang 62 taon

The Sandigabayan on Friday found actor and former Quezon City councilor Roderick Paulate guilty of one count of graft and nine counts of falsification of public documents.

According to Philstar.com, Paulate received a sentence ranging from 10 and a half years to 62 years in prison — broken down, the graft offense was six to eight years while each falsification offense accounts for six months to six years.

He was also ordered to pay a P10,000 fine for each count of the falsification offense, a total of P90,000, and is permanently disqualified from public office, the same report says.

It can be recalled that following his election as Quezon City Second District councilor in 2010, Paulate was suspended from office due to his alleged employment of ghost employees from July to November of the same year, The Manila Times noted.

As per GMA News Online, the court said in a 130-page decision dated November 25 that Paulate recommended the hiring of 30 individuals under job contracts who received wages from July to December 2010 even if their Personal Data Records were riddled with irregularities.

Roderick Paulate is a Filipino actor, comedian, television host and politician. He started his showbiz career as a child actor and received his first Best Child Actor award from the Manila Film Festival for the 1968 movie "Kasalanan Kaya."

Last February, Roderick was Maricel Soriano's guest on her vlog titled "Palengke Tour with Roderick Paulate." The fun reunion of the two veteran actors apparently delighted lots of people.

In 2017, Vilma Santos and Roderick were guests on “Magandang Buhay." The longtime friends admitted that they had a fight that lasted for one year. Their fight involved Maricel Soriano.
