South Korean police have concluded that allegations claiming actor Kim Soo-hyun dated the late actress Kim Sae-ron while she was still a minor are not true, according to a report published by the Korea JoongAng Daily on May 21.

The findings were based on an arrest warrant application reviewed by JoongAng Ilbo, which stated that investigators determined the claims were partially supported by manipulated and artificially generated material.

Authorities said the allegations circulated by Kim Se-eui, operator of the controversial far-right YouTube channel Hoverlab, relied on evidence that was later found to be fabricated. Police argued that screenshots of KakaoTalk conversations presented as proof of an inappropriate relationship had been altered, with names in the chat logs edited to falsely suggest Kim Soo-hyun as the participant.

Investigators further stated that an audio file submitted as evidence was also manipulated using artificial intelligence technology, reinforcing their conclusion that the materials did not reflect real conversations or events.

Police additionally alleged that despite being aware of the questionable authenticity of the materials, Kim Se-eui continued to disseminate the claims. They said the dissemination of the allegations was driven by financial motives, including potential gains from YouTube-related revenue.

Kim Soo-hyun is a South Korean actor known for his roles in hit dramas like 'My Love from the Star,' 'Moon Embracing the Sun,' and 'It's Okay to Not Be Okay.' He gained massive popularity across Asia and is one of the highest-paid actors in South Korea. Aside from acting, he has also been a sought-after brand ambassador for various international brands. His versatility and strong performances have earned him numerous awards and a loyal global fanbase.

In March last year, South Korean superstar Kim Soo-hyun appeared in a press conference organized by his agency, Gold Medalist, where he was seen in tears. The event came after weeks of controversy involving him and South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron. During the press conference, Kim Soo-hyun became emotional as he apologized for the situation and addressed the allegations. He also acknowledged that he had dated Kim Sae-ron but clarified that their relationship took place after she had already reached the legal age.

Earlier, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, issued a statement addressing claims from the Garo Sero Institute, confirming that he and Kim Sae-ron were in a relationship only after she had reached legal age. The agency also denied allegations about Kim Soo-hyun’s mental health being in decline. It said their relationship lasted from summer 2019 to fall 2020, after Kim Sae-ron became an adult. Gold Medalist urged an end to the spread of false information and called for respect for both actors’ privacy.
