A graduate of communications from New Era University, he first drew attention in 2023 with his debut EP Tanong, which included songs such as “Saan?” and “Bakit?”. His major breakthrough arrived in 2024 when “Dilaw” topped the relaunched Billboard Philippines Hot 100 and entered Spotify’s global charts. Since then, he has released tracks like “Namumula,” “Bughaw,” and “Kahel na Langit,” establishing himself as a relatable voice for Gen Z through themes of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery.

Previously, Maki revealed that growing up as one of 17 siblings prevented him from fully enjoying his childhood. According to ABS-CBN, he started taking singing seriously at the age of 13 but initially struggled with performing in front of large crowds due to his lack of confidence. As an introvert, Maki turned to games and the arts as a form of escape during his younger years. Despite the challenges he faced early on, the support of his parents and siblings eventually encouraged him to pursue his passion for music.

In 2025, Maki recounted on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” an unsettling audition experience he had at age 15. He said he performed for one individual who later locked the room and asked him questions he felt were inappropriate for a minor. The “Dilaw” singer described feeling deeply exposed after the encounter. Maki also admitted it made him rethink pursuing a career in showbiz.
