During her guest appearance on Fast Talk With Boy Abunda on GMA Network, Bea candidly spoke about the criticisms she has received online and explained why representing the Philippines means so much to her personally.
The beauty queen emphasized that her connection to the Philippines is not something recent or superficial, saying she has actively supported Filipino and Asian causes for many years, even while living in the United States.
“What I’m saying is that the Philippines is worth representing because I’ve done work to represent the Philippines and for the Philippines my whole life.”

Bea then shared that while studying in the U.S., she became involved in organizations and movements that promoted Asian representation and fought discrimination against Asian communities.
“Even in the U.S., I joined the Asian Student Union. I was joining protests of Stop Asian Hate because I wanted to live up to the legacy of my Lola and my mom and all they’ve sacrificed.”
The newly crowned queen also became emotional as she addressed accusations from critics who questioned whether she was sincere in embracing her Filipino identity and advocacy work.
“And I get a lot of criticism that I’m an opportunist or I’m performative, but throughout this whole journey, I’ve just been trying to be enough for myself and enough for younger Bea who was proud to be Filipina and felt rejected by both Americans and both Filipinos at home.”
Several supporters praised Bea for speaking honestly about the emotional challenges of being caught between two cultures while still choosing to proudly embrace her Filipino roots.
Others also commended the beauty queen for remaining composed despite harsh online criticism following her pageant victory.
Bea Millan-Windorski entered the Miss Universe Philippines competition with an already impressive track record in pageantry. Before winning the national crown, she previously held the title of Miss Earth USA 2024 and later finished as second runner-up during the Miss Earth 2024 competition. During the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 coronation night, Bea quickly emerged as one of the standout candidates after impressing audiences and judges alike in both the swimsuit and evening gown portions. She ultimately secured the crown through a strong performance in the final question-and-answer segment, where she eloquently discussed her Filipino heritage and identity.
Recently, Joy Barcoma publicly defended Bea Millan-Windorski from critics questioning her authenticity and identity. Joy emphasized Bea’s long-standing involvement in Filipino-centered causes and praised her for remaining committed to her advocacies despite negative comments online. Bea also addressed criticisms about her physical appearance and shared that Fatima Bosch inspired her to remain strong amid public scrutiny.
Earlier, Bea Millan-Windorski, representing La Union, officially won the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 crown during the grand coronation night held last May 2 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. She outperformed delegates from across the country and earned the right to represent the Philippines at the upcoming international Miss Universe competition later this year.
