In an interview following the renewal of his partnership with Sante Barley, Kuya Kim shared that he has chosen not to alter his daughter’s room at home, keeping everything as it was when she was still alive. For him, preserving the space is not about holding on in denial, but about honoring her memory while facing grief head-on.
He described how her belongings remain untouched, from her notes to her personal items, as reported by ABS-CBN News.

Kuya Kim then shared a daily ritual that has become central to his healing process. Instead of avoiding the pain, he deliberately enters her room every day, using it as a place for reflection, prayer, and emotional release.
“I have two choices: do I enter the room? Or I avoid it? If I avoid the room, I will never enter the room. What do I do? All my shoes are in Emman’s room. Every single morning, I enter her room, and my bible is beside her bed.”
In a report by Inquirer, he explained that this routine allows him to confront his grief rather than suppress it, giving himself permission to feel the pain fully.
“I sit by her bed, read my passages, and I grieve openly. What happens is gusto kong umiyak, kasi kung umiyak na ako ngayon, hindi na ako iiyak mamaya. Nailabas ko na eh. I advise those who are grieving to tear the bandage away.”
By choosing to face grief daily, Kuya Kim highlighted a perspective that encourages emotional honesty rather than avoidance, an approach that can be both painful and healing at the same time.
In recent months, the TV host has been vocal about mental health awareness and grief, often drawing from his personal experience as a father who lost a child. His openness has helped shed light on the realities of mourning, particularly in a culture where grief is sometimes expected to be endured quietly.
Emman Atienza passed away at just 19 years old while in the United States, after years of silently dealing with mental health struggles. Her death created a profound sense of loss within her family and moved many people who later came to know her story.
Kim Atienza, widely recognized as Kuya Kim, has built a long-standing career as one of the most trusted personalities in Philippine media. He first gained widespread popularity through the educational program Matanglawin on ABS-CBN and later became a familiar presence as a weather anchor on TV Patrol. Known for his passion for science, knowledge-sharing, and public service, he has hosted numerous programs throughout the years. In a previous report, Kuya Kim revealed that he only discovered Emman had auditioned for Pinoy Big Brother during her wake. According to him, ABS-CBN executive Cory Vidanes informed him about it and later sent the audition footage. In the video, Emman expressed her desire to advocate for mental health awareness, despite her own struggles. Kuya Kim said he felt immense pride in his daughter’s intention to help others.
Earlier, Kuya Kim also shared an AI-generated video featuring Emman delivering a message about mental health.
