“Yes, it was taught to us that wives should be submíssíve to their husbands but to a certain extent,” Jamie said. She explained that, in her view, submission should never come at the expense of a wife’s happiness or personal growth. “Not to the point that you would make your wife unhappy and you would curtail their freedom and their growth.”
Jamie highlighted that in her belief, marriage should involve open discussion and understanding between partners. “Dapat ‘yon pinag-uusapan ng mag-asawa. Ano ba ‘yung do’s and don’ts natin. Mag-aadjust din dapat ‘yung husband,” she added, underscoring that husbands, too, should be willing to adjust and compromise to nurture a healthy relationship.
Known for her inspirational music and advocacy for family values, Jamie used her platform to share a perspective she genuinely believes in: that true marital harmony comes from empathy, understanding, and mutual adjustment, making marriage a shared journey rather than a one-sided expectation.

In a related report, some years ago, Toni Gonzaga openly shared the challenges she faced during her first year of marriage to Paul Soriano. She admitted struggling to submit to her husband’s leadership, as her naturally strong and alpha personality made it difficult for her to fully accept Paul as the head of their family. Over time, Toni gradually learned to embrace submission after reflecting on and redefining what it truly means in a marriage.
