Veteran host and comedienne Ruby Rodriguez opened up about one of the biggest decisions of her life during a heartfelt interview with journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdes on the latter’s YouTube vlog. Known for decades as a staple of local television, Ruby shared why she quietly stepped away from her thriving showbiz career and chose to move abroad.

She explained that the move was driven entirely by her son AJ’s medical and developmental needs.
“I left in 2021. It’s for my son kasi nga he is being treated here in the US for a rare autoimmune disease. And then let’s face it mas maganda ang special education dito because my son’s also special, he has intellectual disability. So dito ’yung school nila talagang tututukan nila, and they have a special school and they are all special students,” she relayed.
As a mother, Ruby knew her priority had to be AJ’s treatment and access to better resources, including schools that provide focused care and specialized programs for children with intellectual disabilities.

Now based in California, Ruby is married to a Filipino who holds American citizenship. She has also transitioned into public service, currently working at the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles while continuing to support her family behind the scenes.
