“I did not expect it to be big news.
“I am so honored to have this opportunity and to have this position in the community. I couldn’t imagine that I would have such an impact.”
Lea Salonga has long been open about supporting her child through his transition. In a previous interview with People magazine, as reported by Inquirer, the Broadway star shared her perspective on parenting and acceptance.
“The one thing I’ve learned is that you have to raise your child the way your child needs to be raised. As a parent, I want to set my child up for success.
“I want my child to feel safe and strong and ready to conquer the world on their own terms. You have to meet your child where they are,” the actress-singer said.
Lea Salonga is a globally recognized singer and stage actress who has earned numerous awards throughout her career. She rose to international fame after portraying Kim in the musical Miss Saigon, a role that won her a Tony Award and made her the first Asian woman to receive the honor. She is also widely known as the singing voice behind Disney Princesses Jasmine and Mulan, further cementing her place in pop culture history.
More recently, Lea confirmed that she and her longtime husband, Robert Chien, have separated. She shared that they have been living apart for quite some time and revealed that Robert has since entered a new relationship.
Meanwhile, Nic previously looked back on his top surgery and described how it greatly improved his quality of life. In an Instagram post, he talked about the physical recovery and the emotional relief that followed, saying it helped lessen his gender dysphoria and strengthened his mental health. He also thanked his parents for standing by him and supporting him throughout his journey.
