Actress Judy Ann Santos has spoken up about the viral remark of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Christina Duque, who said that ₱500 is enough for a Noche Buena meal for a family of four. The comment has drawn strong reactions online, with many Filipinos saying the amount is unrealistic given current prices.

In a video shared by The Philippine Star, Judy Ann did not hold back as she shared her thoughts with reporters during an event on Tuesday, December 2.
“Napaka-controversial talaga niyan,” she said. “Maraming nasaktan, maraming na-offend, maraming hindi naka-appreciate kasi parang na-degrade naman masyado ang mga tao, ’di ba?”
The actress and restaurant owner explained that the statement felt out of touch with the real cost of goods today.

“Siguro they could be more specific sa ₱500 na ’yun. Kung dalawa lang sila, baka nga hindi pa kasya. Sa mahal din talaga ng bilihin…” she noted.
Judy Ann added that government officials should show more empathy when making public statements, especially about something as meaningful as a family’s Christmas meal.
“Sana mas naging compassionate lang sa mga ganyang klaseng pagbibigay ng… tumulong ka nga pero… gusto mong tumulong sa Filipino family pero parang mas naka-offend ka pa,” she said.
