Veteran actress Gloria Mara, known in showbiz and political circles as “Loly” or “Lollie,” has passed away at the age of 86, her family confirmed in a Facebook post on Saturday, October 18.

In an announcement posted on Mara’s official Facebook page, her family expressed their grief over her passing.
“Good evening everyone, this is Loly’s family. It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Gloria ‘Loly’ Mara,” they wrote.
They went on to describe the late actress as a deeply loved member of their family.

“We are all heartbroken. Words cannot express how much our mom meant to us. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, friend, and so much more to many,” they said.
They also highlighted her strength and compassion.
“She was the strongest, most compassionate, and deeply loving woman we’ve ever known. Loly had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and cherished,” the statement continued.
Her family added that she made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
“Her presence lit up every room, and her warmth touched countless lives. She was truly loved by many, and her legacy of kindness and thoughtfulness will live on in all of us.”
They ended the message with a tribute to her memory.
“Thank you mom for everything. We love you with all of our hearts and we know that your love lives on in all of us. Wake details to follow.”
The family opted not to mention the cause of her death.
Gloria had a long career in Philippine entertainment, appearing in films and television dramas for several decades. She was known for portraying motherly and respected female characters, earning recognition for her natural and heartfelt acting.
Among her notable film appearances was “Ang Bagong Pamilya ni Ponching,” where she was praised for her portrayal of a compassionate and dignified character. Her work helped shape Filipino cinema and endeared her to audiences and colleagues alike.
Aside from Mara, there are other local personalities who passed away recently.
Lolit Solis, a veteran showbiz columnist and talent manager, has died on July 3, 2025. She was 78 years old. Solis passed away following her long battle with kidney disease. One of those who confirmed the unfortunate news was Salve Asis, an entertainment editor whom Solis customarily mentioned in her online commentaries.
Cocoy Laurel passed away at 72 years old on June 14. The family of the late veteran film and theater actor has revealed his cause of death. According to Manila Bulletin, his brother David Laurel said in an interview that Cocoy died of cardiac arrest caused by multiple organ failure. David also revealed that Cocoy had been suffering from chronic complications stemming from a spinal injury that he sustained during a 2005 theater performance.
