Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi has extended ₱10 million in aid to communities affected by the recent earthquakes in Cebu and Davao Oriental through her beauty brand Asul, which she co-founded with British philanthropist Jonathan Sterling.

Through Asul Hope Foundation, Cortesi and Sterling initially donated ₱5 million to the Angat Buhay Foundation to support relief operations in Cebu, which was hit by a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on September 30.

In its statement, the brand said: “Asul has extended support of ₱5,000,000 in partnership with Angat Buhay Foundation to support disaster relief operations in Cebu. This includes hygiene kits, water, food packs, cash aid, tents, shelters, mobilization, and medical missions for affected families.”

Following twin offshore earthquakes measuring 7.4 and 6.9 that struck Davao Oriental on October 10, Asul provided another ₱5 million donation to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to assist in ongoing rescue and relief efforts.

In a post titled “Together for Davao,” the company emphasized the importance of responding quickly during emergencies:

“In times of crisis, we believe in acting fast. Asul, through Celeste Cortesi and Jonathan Sterling, has extended ₱5,000,000 in support to the Philippine Red Cross to help with rescue and relief efforts in Davao — providing immediate aid, essentials, and support for affected families.”

The Philippine Red Cross later thanked the group for its contribution, calling for unity and continued compassion for those affected by the recent disasters.

Celeste Cortesi was born on December 15, 1997 to a Filipino mother and an Italian father. The beauty queen from Pasay first made her presence known in the local pageant scene through the Miss Earth Philippines 2018 competition. She became even more well-known after winning the Miss Universe Philippines 2022 pageant. The stunner grew up in Italy and moved to the Philippines to pursue pageantry.

In a past report, Celeste represented the country at the 71st Miss Universe pageant. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to make it to the Top 16. This confused and angered many Filipinos, including celebrities, who believe that their beauty queen deserved a spot in the semis. “It’s Showtime” hosts Vice Ganda and Kim Chiu expressed their shock over the results of the pageant. Other celebrities who posted about the pageant results include Gabbi Garcia, Maja Salvador, and Allan K.

After her failed bid, Celeste posted about her experience and feelings. In her lengthy post, the beauty queen from Pasay penned about her MUPH journey. After taking home the crown, Celeste felt beyond thankful to be chosen as the country’s representative in this year’s Miss Universe pageant. She likewise expressed her hope that her story “can inspire so many to never give up on their dreams.”
