Though it seemed that Jhong may have already been informed ahead of time, Ryan still sought confirmation on camera. In his emotional and sincere tone, Ryan expressed how much Jhong means to him.
“Syempre ako, sa puso ko, sa buong buhay ko, pinakamalapit sa akin na kaibigan ay si Kuya Jhong Hilario. So dahil malapit na akong ikasal, pwede kitang tanungin? Can you be my best man?”
Ryan reminisced about their deep bond, which started when Jhong entered the Pinoy Big Brother house and later guided him as a judge on It’s Showtime. He compared Jhong to other beloved figures in his life, including Vice Ganda, whom he affectionately called “Mommy Vice.” Ryan explained why he couldn’t ask Vice to be his best man.
“Ikaw ang pinaka-close ko… Para talaga tayong — totoo ha — more than tunay na kapatid. Sabi ko Lord, bakit ba ako nag-iisa? Gusto ko sana may kuya ako, may kapatid ako. Ikaw ‘yung gift sa akin ni Lord. Kayo lahat, sila Kuya Vhong. Pero Kuya Jhong, ikaw ang idol ko. Sa sobrang bait mo sa lahat, kaya gusto kong maging ikaw.
“Eh si Mommy Vice, kunin ko siyang best man, magagalit ‘yun, nanay ko ‘yun eh,” Ryan said.
Clearly touched, Jhong Hilario accepted the invitation with open arms and deep gratitude.
“Syempre nandoon ako. Syempre tatanggapin ko ‘yan, kasi para maging isang Best Man ni Ryan Bang, na mapili ako — malaking karangalan ‘yan. Syempre marami na tayong pinagsamahan.”
Jhong acknowledged Ryan’s journey as a foreigner who found a second family in the Philippines, particularly in the It’s Showtime family.
“Alam ko kung gaano kahirap ‘yung makipagsapalaran dito sa Pilipinas na walang pamilya, ikaw lang mag-isa. Pero nakahanap ka ng totoong pamilya, pangalawang pamilya mo, kay Vice, sa akin, sa buong Showtime.”
Ryan’s engagement to Paola Huyong, a non-showbiz personality, has been met with warm congratulations from fans and fellow celebrities. Their wedding date has yet to be publicly announced, but with Jhong Hilario officially on board as best man, fans can expect a deeply emotional and joy-filled ceremony.
