Veteran film and theater actor Cocoy Laurel’s name recently made headlines due to heartbreaking news about his passing.

Cocoy, who was the on-screen partner of the late Nora Aunor in classic films such as "Lollipops and Roses" and "Impossible Dream," passed away at 72 years old on Saturday, June 14.
His family has revealed the cause of the late actor’s death. As per Manila Bulletin’s report, his younger brother David Laurel said in an interview that Cocoy died of cardiac arrest caused by multiple organ failure.
David likewise revealed that his late brother had been suffering from chronic complications arising from a spinal injury sustained during a 2005 performance of The Miraculous Vírgín of Caysasay.

“He already had a back problem. But he was not yet doubled over. He could walk normally, no limp,” said David.
“He would sit up straight for some time. He was okay. But as it grew over time, that’s when I think the complications came in,” he continued.
“He had it checked, you know. It's in pieces. So how will that mend?” David aired, sharing that the injury left the lower portion of Cocoy’s spine in fragments.
In his final months, the actor remained active in church service, painting, mentoring, and singing. He was a longtime choir member at Santuario de San Antonio.
Cocoy Laurel, whose full name is Victor “Cocoy” Laurel, is a veteran Filipino actor, singer, and theatre performer from the prominent Laurel family. He first rose to fame in the 1970s as a movie heartthrob, appearing alongside Nora Aunor in hit films like "Lollipops and Roses," "Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka," and "Impossible Dream." A multi-talented artist, he also pursued fine arts, studying painting in Madrid, and trained in prestigious performing arts schools such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Juilliard.

Along with the snaps, Jenine expressed her emotional thoughts about Cocoy’s sudden demise. The veteran actress then took a stroll down memory lane and recalled her wonderful moments with Cocoy and how he believed in her talents.
Meanwhile, Sen. Robin Padilla paid tribute to Cocoy Laurel in a heartfelt post. In a Facebook post on Monday, June 16, Sen. Padilla shared an art card about Laurel’s death. The actor-turned-senator also penned a farewell message to Cocoy. He likewise honored the late actor’s contributions to art and culture.
