Veteran film and theater actor Victor "Cocoy" Laurel has passed away at 72 years old on Saturday, June 14, his niece Nicole Laurel Asensio announced on social media. Tributes then poured in to honor the late actor.

Jenine Desiderio is among those who took to social media to react to the heartbreaking news.

In her post published on Monday, June 16, Jenine shared a couple of throwback photos of her and Cocoy.

Along with the snaps, Jenine expressed her emotional thoughts about Cocoy’s sudden demise.

“It is truly a sad day to hear of your passing,” she mournfully wrote in the caption.

The veteran actress then took a stroll down memory lane and recalled her wonderful moments with Cocoy and how he believed in her talents.

“I was an ingenue in my late teens when i first met you. We were the Gibson Cloisters (you, Michael Williams, Isay & I) bec we lived right next to each other in Islington, London,” she recollected.

“You made me believe in myself & my talents when I didn’t even know i had them. Your constant praise gave me wings to fly….. You taught me the songs of The King & I on your piano & pushed me to audition. Thanks to you, i passed. But could not do it bec of my contract w/ Saigon.”

“I was lucky to play your love interest in Simon’s Way,” Jenine earnestly expressed.

“I could go on & on but there’s just so much! The portrait you made for me still hangs in my living room up to this day,” she revealed.

Jenine concluded her heartfelt tribute by telling the late veteran actor, “Fly free, Coy…. I will forever be grateful. We love you!”

Cocoy Laurel, whose full name is Victor “Cocoy” Laurel, is a veteran Filipino actor, singer, and theatre performer from the prominent Laurel family. He first rose to fame in the 1970s as a movie heartthrob, appearing alongside Nora Aunor in hit films like "Lollipops and Roses," "Lollipops and Roses at Burong Talangka," and "Impossible Dream." A multi-talented artist, he also pursued fine arts, studying painting in Madrid, and trained in prestigious performing arts schools such as the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and Juilliard.

As previously reported by KAMI, Zsa Zsa Padilla has taken to social media to pay tribute to Cocoy. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for Cocoy’s “beautiful gift.” The Divine Diva also recalled her last meeting with him, which took place just last month.

Sen. Robin Padilla also paid tribute to Cocoy in a heartfelt post. In his Facebook post, the actor-turned-senator penned a farewell message to Cocoy. Sen. Robin also honored the late actor’s contributions to art and culture.
