Senator Bong Go is among the prominent personalities who reacted to Freddie Aguilar’s demise.

The senator expressed his heartfelt thoughts and emotions on the unfortunate news through a statement released on his social media pages.

The statement titled “Senator Bong Go, nakikidalamhati sa pagpanaw ni Freddie Aguilar” said Go is sending his sincere sympathies to the late OPM legend’s loved ones.

“Nagpahayag ng taos-pusong pakikiramay si Senator Bong Go sa pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay ni Freddie Aguilar—isang tunay na alamat ng musikang Pilipino at tinig ng sambayanan,” it stated.

Go also lauded Aguilar’s enormous contributions to Philippine culture.

“Bilang kilalang tagapagtanggol ng kulturang Pilipino, kinilala ni Senator Go ang mga ambag ni Ka Freddie sa pagtataguyod ng kultura ng bansa sa pamamagitan ng kanyang makabuluhang awitin gaya ng ‘Anak,’ ‘Bayan Ko,’ at marami pang iba na naging salamin ng damdamin ng masa.”

“Matatandaang si Ka Freddie rin ang lumikha ng kantang “Para sa Tunay na Pagbabago” para kay dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong 2016—isang patunay ng kanyang paninindigan at paniniwala sa adhikain ng tunay na pagbabago para sa bayan,” it continued.

As per the statement, Go felt honored by the friendship he had with the legendary folk musician.

“Personal na nakilala ni Senator Kuya Bong Go noong 2015 si Ka Freddie, at tinuturing niya itong isang karangalan na naging kaibigan nya ang yumaong singer.”

“Nakiisa si Mr. Malasakit sa panalangin para sa kapayapaan ng kanyang kaluluwa at lakas ng loob para sa naiwang pamilya, kasabay ng pagbibigay-pugay sa musikero na minsang naging boses ng mga pangarap at damdamin ng mga Pilipino,” it added.

Freddie Aguilar was born on February 5, 1953, and began performing OPM music in 1973. Throughout his five decades in the industry, he became known for songs with themes centered on family, patriotism, and social issues. During the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, he was appointed as the Presidential Adviser on Culture and the Arts and also served as a member of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

The legendary musician died at the age of 72 on May 27, 2025. The news was confirmed by his former partner Josephine Quiepo, the mother of his children, including singer Maegan Aguilar, during an interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda." According to Josephine, the OPM artist died due to multiple organ failure. He lost his life while at the Philippine Heart Center.

Manny Pacquiao also honored Freddie Aguilar in his heartfelt tribute posted on social media. On his Facebook page, the boxing legend expressed how saddened he is over Ka Freddie’s demise. The former senator likewise lauded the late OPM legend’s “Anak,” expressing how the timeless hit touched his heart. The athlete likewise sent his deepest condolences to Ka Freddie’s family and friends.
