She explained that the pain stemmed from a severe tension headache caused by stress. Recalling the experience, she said she had never felt that kind of pain before in her life. “After 2 ER visits in 12hrs and a very scary MRI for this claustrophobic, I still feel like mamatay ako everytime I sit up. Scans were negative of anything more serious that muscle spasms. Relaxants and heating pads have been helpful tho…”

Despite the physical pain, Bettina revealed that the emotional strain of being away from her two children was even more difficult. She worried about her youngest daughter and how her teenage daughter, who was left in charge, would cope while she was in the hospital. “More painful tho was thinking of my 2yo sleeping on the chest of my 14yo who is a heavy sleeper, worried she might wake up looking for me to hush her back to sleep… But through all this physical pain, we are so thankful for friends who gladly took our girls in even if it meant pushing their mothers day plans.”

Now back home and recovering, Bettina is taking time to reflect on how stress impacts her health and how she can better respond to it moving forward. “Now as I lay flat in bed with a heating pad on my back neck and head, I’m prayerfully rethinking my response to stress… Such a painful way to learn but God knows how Id best learn.”
