Veteran singer and former Camarines Sur vice governor Imelda Papin became emotional during her visit to the wake of her dear friend and idol, National Artist Nora Aunor.

In a video shared by ABS-CBN News, Papin recalled their final moments together and the shock of suddenly losing someone who had been in constant contact with her.
“She is my idol, my kumadre, and sa lahat ng kaibigan niya ako ’yung isa sa nakaalam sa surgery niya,” Papin said tearfully. “We had a communication and after she texted me that she was okay at nagpapasalamat siya sa akin. Hindi ako makapaniwala kasi we were talking, we were texting everyday tapos hindi ako makapaniwala na nawala siya kagabi.”
Papin also shared that she was by Nora’s side when she passed away, alongside the late actress’s children. The moment left her shaken as she reflected on Nora’s unmatched legacy in Philippine entertainment.

“I was there na-witness ko po ’yung pagkawala niya kasama ’yung mga anak niya,” Papin said. “Siya po ang hinangaan ng lahat ng Filipinos, when it comes to music, naging National Artist siya dahil sa larangan ng pagkanta, larangan ng pag-arte. Siya po ang number 1, wala pong makakatalo sa kanya. The one and only superstar.”
Nora Aunor, known as the “Superstar” of Philippine showbiz, passed away at 71. Her contributions to both music and film have cemented her as a cultural icon and national treasure. Her wake continues at The Chapels at Heritage Park, with the public given a chance to pay their respects before her interment at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Nora Aunor was a celebrated Filipino actress, singer, and producer. Known as the 'Superstar of Philippine cinema, she has earned critical acclaim for her powerful performances in films such as Himala, Bona, and The Flor Contemplacion Story. Her contributions to the arts were recognized in 2022 when she was named National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts. In 1975, Nora married fellow actor Christopher de Leon. They have one biological son, Ian de Leon, and adopted four children: Lotlot, Matet, Kiko, and Kenneth de Leon.

She mentioned that Vilma Santos and Esperanza "Espie" Fabon were her "chum girls." She also shared that she dislikes arrogant people. She named Nancy Wilson, Dionne Warwick, and Barbra Streisand as her favorite singers.
Meanwhile, Nora Aunor shared the story of how she lost her powerful and striking voice. She said she simply woke up one day only to find out that she could no longer sing. She admitted that it was a painful experience for her, as she used to love singing more than acting back then. Unfortunately, her once-powerful voice could never be restored.
