Broadcaster Christine Bersola-Babao recently shared heartwarming glimpses of her family’s longstanding Good Friday tradition on Instagram. Led by her husband, fellow broadcaster Julius Babao, the tradition spans over two decades and now involves their children, Antonio and Antonia Babao.

In her Instagram post, Christine shared that every Good Friday, Julius paints or or sketches the face Of Jesus Christ, as an expression of gratitude for blessings received throughout the year. His affinity for the image of Christ dates back to his childhood, where he discovered his creative talents by sketching crucifixes and even crafting a comic book centered on the New Testament during sixth grade.

Despite sporadic engagement with painting and drawing in adulthood, Julius recognized the need to utilize his God-given abilities more intentionally. Thus, he committed to creating a painting on canvas or a sketch on a notepad every Good Friday, drawing inspiration from the passion of Christ on the Cross.

The tradition entails a poignant three-hour painting session each Good Friday afternoon during Holy Week, resulting in a unique portrayal of Jesus Christ each year.

“Julius’ Annual Panata : Good Friday Tradition for the past 21 years. Our kids, as they were growing up & witnessing Julius paint or sketch the Face Of Jesus Christ, have also joined in.

“Julius began this “panata”or religious vow in 2003 as a way of thanksgiving for blessings received in the past year.

“Naturally drawn to the image of Christ, Julius realized his creative talents as a young boy when he would buy crucifixes and practice drawing them at home. In grade 6 he even made a an entire comic book based on the new testament. So, religious themes are not new for Julius.
“As an adult, Julius would only paint or draw on occasion. Realizing that he was not making use of his God-given talent and skills in painting and drawing, Julius decided to make a painting on canvas or a sketch on a note pad every year.
“Armed with his strong faith and a blank canvas, Julius Babao would paint an image of Jesus Christ every afternoon of Good Friday during Holy Week.
“The three-hour painting session, produces a different look or image every time, drawing inspiration from the passion of Christ on the Cross.”

Julius Caesar Concepcion Babao is a Filipino journalist and radio commenter who used to be under the Kapamilya network, previously working for ABS-CBN for 28 years. He announced his departure from the network back in December 2021. He is also married to Christine Peji Bersola, a multi-media personality.

As previously reported by KAMI, Julius Babao and Christine Babao underwent colonoscopy and endoscopy tests. Both of them were diagnosed with GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease). Furthermore, Christine shared that three polyps were found in her body and four in Julius’s. Fortunately, their doctors told them that the polyps were not cancerous.

Meanwhile, Julius made headlines when he formally announced his departure from ABS-CBN after working with the Kapamilya network for 28 years. His co-worker, Karen Davila turned emotional in one of her online posts, openly admitting that she felt nostalgic to be working with Julius during his last week with the network.
