Earlier, Taguig City prosecutors filed a rape case against Navarro over the alleged rape of Cornejo back in 2014. The Department of Justice (DOJ) has already junked Cornejo’s rape complaint against Navarro for her allegedly inconsistent statements in her affidavits.
However, ABS-CBN reported that the Court of Appeals granted Cornejo’s petition regarding the dismissal of her rape complaint, stating that it is better for Navarro to defend himself at trial.
The controversy became big news back in 2014, when Cornejo accused Navarro of intoxicating her and raping her in her condominium unit in Taguig City, as reported by Rappler.
Navarro was also allegedly beaten up by Cornejo’s male friends during the same night the alleged rape took place. The Taguig court convicted Cornejo, Cedric Lee, and Jed Fernandez for grave coercion in 2018 for what happened to Navarro in 2014, as reported by Inquirer.
