Ion Perez talked about his humble beginnings and his simple life in the province before becoming famous. He lived with his parents and her 14 siblings in Tarlac. However, with the passing of his father in 2004, Ion and his siblings realized that they had to look after their mom.

He also shared the happiness he felt helping his mother out.

"Kasi dati talagang siya lahat. Pumupunta siya sa palengke at walang magbibitbit at siya ‘yung nagluluto. Pero nung nakakasama niya ako, ako yung nagbubuhat at ako rin yung naghahalo ng mga niluluto niya. At habang ginagawa naming yun, nagkwekwentuhan kami.” Ion said in an interview with Star Studio."

He shared that he was able to graduate high school despite not being a diligent student.

Looking back at his college days, he regretted neglecting his studies because of getting hooked with alcohol.

“Nung college, mas lumala ‘yung pagiinom at mas lumawak yung pakikibarkada. Kaya yun, napa-stop ako sa pag-aaral,” Ion added."

With his looks which many of us admired, one would think he is the type who would sweep girls off their feet. Apparently, he worked hard for his looks as he experienced being bullied because of his appearance when he was younger.

His experience, which pushed him to work hard to look better was when he overheard two girls talking about him, “Hmph, ano ba yan. Ang baho naman nitong batang to. Bukod sa mabaho na, ang pangit pa.”

He was deeply affected and wept with these words but it motivated him. “Sa susunod na makikita niyo ako, hindi niyo na ako pagsasabihan na mabaho at pangit," he said to himself.

Ion was able to change people's perspective of him by working out in the gym, minimized his sun exposure, and he was active in the sport.

He later found out that those mean girls asked about him. Ion frankly told them that he was the boy they bulled before.

Before making it to It's Showtime, Ion won a pageant which opened many doors of opportunity for him.
