Senator Manny Pacquiao took a blow recently as he garnered the most number of absences during the third and last session of the 17th Congress.

The people’s champ has a total of 12 absences spanning from July 23, 2018, to June 4, 2019. The senator was absent 20 percent of the time during the 3rd session of the Senate, before it adjourned on June 4.

The latest attendance record released by the Senate Public Relations and Information Bureau (PRIB) shows Sen. Pacquiao only attended 49 out of 61 plenary sessions. There were also two occasions that the fighting senator arrived late or he came after the roll call has been made.

The Senate’s PRIB record mirrored the senator’s poor attendance during his previous stint in the House of Representatives. Records show, he also skipped quite a number of sessions back when he was still a congressman in Sarangani province.

KAMI learned that after taking his oath as a senator in 2016, the fighting senator was asked if he could change his ways and if he would promise never to be absent in the Senate, “hindi yata tama ang mangako ka, as a Christian. Gagawin natin lahat ng ating makakaya,” he told reporters.

In Pacman’s defense, some netizens are up in arms about the top absentee issue. Surfacing posts on social media sites about the said Senate attendance record have been quickly scrutinized.

“Makabira kayo kay Pacman, tignan nyo kay Bambam dalawa lang naman lamang. Partida, di pa boxer yan!

“Bills passed, sponsored, and authored naman ang i-post nyo. Pahusayan sila sa trabaho hindi sa pagpasok...”

“Ok lang yan kahit madami absent. Kesa pumasok ka nga eh tulog ka naman lagi.”

Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan had actually the least attended sessions with 47 out of 61, but his absences were mostly due to 12 official missions. The Senate officially recognized these and only recorded two absences.

Meanwhile, Sen. Leila De Lima was not able to attend any plenary session mainly because she has been in detention for drug-related charges.

Netizens also referred to Senator Bam Aquino’s 10 absences and arriving late in Senate sessions for 9 times as against Pacquiao’s 12 absences and only 2 counts of tardiness.

“Eh paano pa kaya si Bam, hindi naman nakakulong, hindi naman nagboboxing, pero 10 absences parin.”

“Bam Aquino? Sparring partner ka ba ni Pacquiao?”

Some netizens even questioned the timing of the issue as Pacman is set to fight against the undefeated Keith Thurman for the WBA (Super) Welterweight Championship on July 20, 2019, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In a previous report by , the legendary boxer and his whole entourage, Team Pacquiao, were headed to New York for the U.S. Press Tour of his upcoming professional boxing superfight against Keith Thurman, billed as Welterweight Supremacy.

Senator Emmanuel “Manny” Dapidran Pacquiao, won a seat in the Senate with over 16 million votes in 2016. The Filipino boxing hero continues to be a superstar in the world of international boxing with an army of fans from all around the world.
