A grade 5 student in Calabanga, Camarines Sur died while using an extension cord in his home.
KAMI learned that the student made the extension cord as a school project.
According to a report by ABS-CBN News (authored by Mylce Mella), he was helped by his grandfather, who is an electrician, in making the cord.
Unfortunately, the child was killed when he used it for the first time in his room.
His mother narrated the tragic event:
“Hindi naman po namin ini-expect na 'pag nabuo niya na to, isasaksak niya kaagad... Bigla na lang may lumagabog sa kuwarto. Dun po namin nakita na nakahiga na siya…
“Tinakbo na po namin sa BMC (Bicol Medical Center), pagdating po dun, 'yun na nga ang sabi na na-revive nila, nagkaroon ng heartbeat pero brain dead na kasi 'yung kuryente hindi lumabas sa katawan niya. 'Yung internal organs nya ang tinamaan sabi ng doctor," the grieving mother said.
The student’s teacher said that the child was not required to make an extension cord since he had already submitted a different project.
But even if he was required to create an extension cord, the teacher said that his instruction to his students was that it should be done at school with his supervision.
