Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has started giving away free “Air Binay 2.0” to 6,000 public school students. KAMI learned that the newly released shoes are a better version of the “Air Binay” rubber shoes launched a year ago.

In a report by Manila Bulletin, Binay gave free rubber shoes to the students of Francisco Benitez Elementary School, Maximo Estrella Elementary School, Jose Magsaysay Elementary School, Nicanor Garcia Elementary School, and Makati Elementary School.

Among the recipients of the shoes are Kinder to Grade 6 students and SPED classes. The city allocated 49, 824 pairs of shoes and 40, 314 pairs for junior to senior high school students.

According to a report by Inquirer, the “Air Binay 2.0” is part of Makati City’s Free Relevant Excellent Education (FREE) project which aims to provide free uniforms and school supplies to public school students. They also provide free anti-dengue kits, hygiene kits, raincoats, and rain boots.

“For as long as we have the financial means, we are willing to pull out all the stops to ensure that our students have everything they need, so that all they have to do is study and learn and become the best that they can be,” Mayor Binay said.

Back in December 2017, Mayor Binay launched the free rubber shoes that the netizens dubbed as “Air Binay”. A total of 89, 862 public school students were able to receive free rubber shoes.

As previously reported by KAMI, Abby has filed her certificate of candidacy to seek reelection in Makati. However, she is running against her brother, Junjun Binay, who used to be Makati's city mayor from 2010 to 2015.
