Kapuso celebrity Iya Villania bravely revealed through a social media post that she recently took two-month-old son Leon to the hospital.
KAMI learned that the adorable baby took a confirmatory test for a metabolic disorder called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency.
G6PD is the enzyme necessary for correct functioning of red blood cells and for protecting them from harmful food, infection, and medication.
An individual who is suffering from a G6PD deficiency has red blood cells that are susceptible to being destroyed, thus a confirmatory test is important.
Before the said test is conducted, the newborn baby has to undergo Newborn Screening (NBS) and has a positive result for G6PD.
Iya did not specify what hospital they went to but an article published in PEP.ph said that the test is usually done in the National Institutes of Health-Philippines (NIH).
"G6PD confirmatory test at the hospital today (frowning emoji)," the actress’ post read.
