Photo of alleged mermaid swimming in waters of Lusok Cave goes viral

- A Filipina took a photo of her nieces while they were swimming in the waters of Lusok Cave

- When they got home, they noticed that there seemed to be a mermaid swimming behind them

The photo shows two girls swimming and what appears to be a mermaid swimming behind them.

It was taken in Lusok Cave in Calayan Group of Islands.

According to Arielle Mangasar, she took a photo of her nieces swimming but saw the “mermaid” in the photo when they got home.

It turned out that there have been many reports of mermaid sightings in Calayan.

However, some experts said that the “mermaid” in the photo might just be rocks underneath the water.

As for the smell of urine in the cave, which is said to be a sign of a mermaid’s presence, it was probably caused by bats’ urine and dead fish in the water.

Another citizen said that the story about mermaids was probably made up by old folks to scare children from going to the cave.

Some netizens expressed their belief of mermaids but others expressed their doubts.

“Kaya di umuunlad pilipinas eh, puro kasi paniniwala at ayaw tumanggap ng facts. Sayang ang effort ng mga guro at professors kung nagpapakamangmang lang ang mga tao. Mas pinipiling maniwala sa hindi maipaliwanag samantalang sa science may paliwanag nga,” a netizen commented.
