According to a report by GMA Regional TV on "Balitanghali" Friday, police said the incident stemmed from a drinking session at the workers’ barracks. Witnesses recalled that the suspect was lying on a hammock when the victim made a joke about cutting its rope using a bolo.
“Humiga sa duyan ang suspek nang magbiro ang biktima na puputulin niya ang tali ng duyan gamit ang itak,” the report stated.
However, the joke unexpectedly turned real when the hammock’s rope snapped, causing the suspect to fall. This enraged the suspect, leading to a heated exchange of words with the victim.

The victim eventually left the barracks and went to drink at a nearby store. But the suspect followed him there and fatally stabbed him in the chest. The victim died from the wound.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene and remains at large as of this writing. Authorities have launched a manhunt to track him down.
The police confirmed that the suspect will face a murder complaint once apprehended. They also reminded the public about the dangers of excessive drinking and urged workers to settle misunderstandings peacefully instead of resorting to violence.
