In a recent turn of events, model-athlete Joshua de Sequera has taken to social media to defend his stepfather, veteran actor Ricardo Cepeda, who was arrested on allegations of syndicated estafa. Cepeda's partner is Sequera's mother, former model and actress Marina Benipayo, and the incident has caused quite a stir in the entertainment industry.

Sequera's impassioned defense of his stepfather was posted on Facebook, where he expressed his belief in Cepeda's innocence. He asserted that Cepeda was merely a product endorser for a sales company, similar to the commonly used title of "BRAND AMBASSADOR" in various enterprises.

Sequera emphasized that Cepeda had no knowledge of or involvement in the investment scheme that the company offered, which promised substantial monthly profits and guaranteed advanced payouts through postdated checks.

As the situation unraveled, the checks began bouncing, leading to disgruntled investors pursuing estafa cases against anyone they perceived as being associated with the company, including Ricardo Cepeda.

Sequera added that Cepeda's lawyer could easily demonstrate his innocence by presenting evidence, such as a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) registration showing the company as a sole proprietorship without Cepeda's name.

Furthermore, Sequera asserted that Cepeda's name did not appear on any of the investment memorandum of agreements (MOAs) or the postdated checks in question. He expressed concern over the potential difficulties his stepfather might face, particularly the prospect of being detained during court proceedings, despite his innocence.

“Please spread the word. My Father Richard Cepeda Go was wrongfully accused. He was simply the product endorser of a sales company. They used the title BRAND AMBASSADOR (which many companies also use). The company offered an investment scheme (which he had no knowledge nor participation of) which paid people a big % profit monthly. Guaranteed with advanced payouts in monthly postdated checks. Eventually the checks started bouncing so the investors filed estafa cases against everyone who they thought was part of the company. Including Ricardo -who was just the celebrity model. His lawyer can easily prove his innocence by presenting a copy of DTI showing the company is a sole proprietorship and his name is not there. Also his name appears nowhere on any of the said investment moas and post dated checks. Request for bail and if ever court date is his biggest hassle because it means he's stuck in detainment even though he's innocent.

Ricardo Cepeda, whose real name is Richard Cesar Cepeda Go, is a Pinoy veteran actor who made a name for himself in Philippine TV and cinema. He is 57 years old, having been born on October 11, 1964 in Manila, Philippines. He is known for movies like “Una Kang Naging Akin” which was released in 2008, the 2009 movie Kaya Kong Abutin Ang Langit and the TV series, Ang Probinsyano. He is the ex-husband of actress Snooky Serna.

In 2018, Cepeda’s ex-wife, Snooky, revealed the main reason for her separation with Cepeda. She said that she had mental illness at the time and their financial difficulties contributed to their problems as a couple.

Cepeda’s ex-wife, who is a member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, also talked about her relationship with former Bulacan Vice Governor Ramon Villarama, who is a Catholic. Snooky then opened up about the dilemma she faced because of her complicated love life.
