Gilas Pilipinas defeated Jordan with a score of 70-60 at the men’s basketball finals at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China.
With the victory, the Philippine basketball team took home the Asian Games gold medal for the first time since 1962, ending a 61-year gold medal drought for the Philippine basketball team.
Justin Brownlee led Gilas Pilipinas with 20 points and 10 rebounds, with teammates Chris Newsome contributing 13 points and Scottie Thompson scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds.
On Instagram, the former head coach of Gilas Pilipinas, Chot Reyes, expressed his reaction to the historic win. Coach Chot was ecstatic over the victory and praised the current Gilas coach, Tim Cone, and the entire team.

One of the members of Gilas Pilipinas is PBA star Scottie Thompson. He is part of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association. Scottie played college basketball at the University of Perpetual Help of the NCAA. He was then drafted fifth overall in the 2015 PBA draft by the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

Earlier, Scottie shared a sweet social media post with his wife, Jinky Serrano-Thompson. His post contains a cozy photo of him and Jinky embracing each other as the latter went back home from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A backdrop could also be seen behind the couple. It has a message that reads, "Congratulations and welcome home, Love." To recall, Scottie and Gilas Pilipinas team flew to Jeddah for the fifth window of the 2023 Fiba World Cup Asian qualifiers.
